Dinouvo, a collection of hand-blown glass objects, is inspired by the whimsical anecdote from Girolamo Benzoni's The History of the New World, where Christopher Columbus, challenged to stand an egg on its tip, cleverly accomplishes the task by breaking the egg on the table. This curious moment led the creators of Dinouvo to pose a novel question: What if an egg could balance on its tip without external influence, achieved solely through precise orientation? This collection embodies that playful thought, using the center of gravity to create a delicate equilibrium, much like an egg standing upside down.
Dinouvo transcends traditional categorization, serving not only as a functional object but also as an artful expression of the balance between imperfection and perfection. It functions as both a light fixture and a vase, with the yolk symbolized by an ethereal orb of light suspended within the transparent glass. The orb is crafted through the meticulous layering of glass in varying thicknesses, creating a striking visual effect.
The larger iteration of Dinouvo, standing nearly half a meter tall and weighing 15kg, showcases the technical difficulty and artisanal expertise involved. Its form exudes a romantic allure inherent to the medium of glass, and it embodies a playful, unconventional approach to design.
In its delicate balancing act, Dinouvo engages with the challenge posed by Columbus' egg-standing feat. It invites reflection on the interaction between tradition and innovation, perfection and imperfection, and invites viewers to appreciate the artistry and ingenuity that redefines the possibilities of hand-blown glass objects.
