Revontulet (Finnish for “fox fires,” referring to the Northern Lights) is a cultural museum proposal for Helsinki inspired by the atmospheric qualities of auroral light. The design explores how light, reflection, and movement can shape an immersive museum experience rooted in Finnish identity and the waterfront context. A fluid, undulating form and layered glazed façade create a building that shifts character—reflecting water and sky by day and becoming a glowing civic landmark by night.
The project integrates public and cultural space through a central plaza that extends into the building, supporting gathering, learning, and leisure. Circulation is continuous and experiential, guiding visitors through a sequence of open and intimate spaces, from active public zones to contemplative galleries and flexible event spaces. Sustainability and inclusivity are embedded through local materials, green roofs, and adaptable programming, positioning Revontulet as a contemporary cultural landmark along Helsinki’s waterfront.
