Marcomonde, the Japanese fashion brand known for its socks and footwear, unveiled its first permanent retail space on the fourth floor of Shibuya PARCO, Tokyo. This 20-square-meter store showcases innovative design within a compact space.
Located near the escalator landing, the store captivates visitors with its abstract, free-standing staircase sculpture. The staircase, which leads to nowhere, is used to display the brand's footwear and apparel, adding an element of surrealism to the shopping experience.
The uniform epoxy-resin mortar finish with grey undertones across the stairs, walls, floors, and panels enhances the vibrancy of Marcomonde’s products. Stainless-steel pipe shelves and high-translucency glass blend seamlessly with the building’s existing structure, contributing to the store's harmonious aesthetic.
Despite its solid appearance, the design conceals functional areas, including storage, a changing room, and a desk. Marcomonde’s Shibuya store combines the familiar staircase form with an artful presentation of the brand’s collection, offering an engaging and visually stimulating environment. Positioned near the escalator, it introduces an element of physical disorientation, inviting visitors to explore the illusion of a stairway leading to a hidden fashion world.
